We work with clients across the UK in a variety of capacities, from start-ups to million pound corporations. With such a diverse range of skills and services, Hunter Adams is well positioned to take care of our clients’ entire HR process. We’ve recently been working with a company which is acquiring another – find out below how we have guided Serica Energy through the complicated legal process of business transfer.
Serica Energy Ltd.
On 21 November 2017, Serica announced its agreement to purchase interests in the Bruce, Keith and Rhum fields in the UK North Sea from BP. With a transfer date of 1st October 2018 Serica is in the process of re-structuring, with the aim to deliver a competent, prepared organisation which has the ability to demonstrate credibility with the regulators.
So how did we go about this?
• Provided guidance, direction and planning to kick off the Transfer of Undertakings (TUPE) process.
You have one opportunity to make the right impression as a new employer. Being prepared with the right plan, and providing effective communications including “Frequently Asked Questions” ensures that staff feel that they are in safe hands. This can be an unsettling time for employees so every effort is made to provide clear and consistent communication.
• Led the recruitment campaign for 25 newly created posts to support the asset
By raising Serica’s profile in the market through social media and building their value proposition (eg. why would staff want to join them), we set about building a pipeline of staff that we can directly hire into the team. This saved our client considerable cost from the traditional recruitment agency approach. We believe a robust recruitment process whereby we get to know our applicants means they are ready to join the company fully, rather than responding reactively to a vacancy list as long as your arm.
• Set up payroll process for onshore and offshore population
It’s important to understand what needs to be insourced and outsourced, so we focused on the key business and putting in place a culture that will retain and engage staff in the long term.
• Established HR back office with efficient processes, policies and templates
Whilst our purpose is to help our clients grow and to increase their bottom line profitability, we need the basics in place to be effective and work towards these outcomes. For companies to grow they need the fundamental structures in place to help them scale and respond to market changes. We create the right balance between policy and process and being lean, flexible and entrepreneurial in our thinking.
• Implemented an online HR system
Staying ahead of the times and being technology focused means that we can provide the business with the data they need to make sound business decisions. In addition to software and online systems, effective HR reporting identifies problems before they arise and also helps to ensure cost is managed effectively.
• Appointed benefits, shares and immigration specialists
We partner with firms to provide our clients with the best expert advice that they need. Being competitive in this sector is key, as is managing these outsourcing providers commercially. A key lesson for start-ups and growing businesses is to hire the experts and to get it right first time.
• Providing a strong competent HR and Recruitment team who are Serica’s team.
With over 70 consultants UK wide – staff who we employ as employees – we can provide our clients with a blended approach. Some weeks they may need a recruiter, other weeks some support from a more strategic HR professional. We have the capability and scale to provide the right team to our clients when they need more than one person, and we’ve provided a range of professionals to Serica to meet their requirements.
Mitch Flegg CEO of Serica Energy said, “I chose Hunter Adams because they provide a professional, comprehensive but cost-effective solution for all of Serica’s HR requirements.
