“Absolutely delighted with the service our organisation received from the team at Hunter Adams. Upon finding ourselves under resourced due to circumstances out with our control, the team were able to step up and confirm the provision of support within a few hours. They were able to understand our needs and ascertain the information required to identity the correct HR consultant to join the team. Our consultant was in her first operational meeting within an hour of stepping through the front door! Our plan had been to bring her in to provide support with recruitment activity, however, the remit quickly grew, and she ended up leading on a number of complex employee relations issues. I would highly recommend Hunter Adams as your go to solution in providing high quality HR interim resources.”

What is interim HR? What is HR consultancy? What’s the difference?

What is interim HR?

Interim HR means bringing in an experienced HR professional to fill a gap, manage change, or deliver a specific project. It’s embedded, hands-on delivery from inside your business — running people processes, handling ER, leading teams, or rolling out change. This can be full-time, part-time or fractional HR (e.g., 1–3 days/week).

What is HR consultancy?

HR Consultancy provides external, strategic guidance. Consultants assess, diagnose and design solutions (policies, culture, engagement, compliance, growth strategy), often on a project basis (e.g., an HR audit or designing a performance framework), with less day-to-day delivery.

Why Hunter Adams?

FAQs (quick, no-jargon answers)

What is ‘fractional HR’?

‘Fractional human resources’ is a term being used more frequently these days to describe the practice of bringing in a senior HR leader or specialist on a part-time basis, typically 1–3 days a week. It gives you strategic expertise and hands-on delivery without the cost of a full-time hire. Businesses use fractional HR services to:

  • Provide continuity while they decide on a permanent hire
  • Get senior-level HR oversight on a budget that works for SMEs or scaling businesses
  • Access specialist skills (reward, change, ER) only when they’re needed

Think of it as having a part-time HR director in your corner, someone who knows your business, but without the full-time overheads.

Yes, absolutely. While we work UK-wide, we understand that many clients search for HR temp agencies in London and Manchester, for example, when they need fast cover. The difference with us? We don’t just “place temps.” We provide interim HR support that’s practical, commercial, and embedded in your business. Whether you need someone in your office tomorrow or a hybrid fractional role a few days a week, we’ll make it happen quickly and with the right cultural fit.

Yes. Our team is used to stepping into high-pressure people challenges at short notice. Common examples include:

  • Complex employee relations cases
  • Urgent investigations or disciplinary processes
  • Preparing for an employment tribunal
  • Supporting line managers who feel out of their depth

We know these issues can’t wait. That’s why our interim professionals are experienced, discreet, and ready to “hit the ground running” so you can get peace of mind quickly.

Yes, but not only SMEs. We support organisations of every size, from start-ups and scaling SMEs through to large corporates and charities.

  • For SMEs, our HR support services provide external expertise without the cost of a full-time team.
  • For larger organisations, we add specialist capability or interim cover when teams are stretched or transformation is underway.
  • For charities and not-for-profits, we offer flexible, values-aligned support that strikes a balance between compliance and culture.

Wherever you sit on the scale, we’ll shape the right model, from part-time HR support to interim head of HR cover.

Yes. Sometimes what you need isn’t a full interim role, but an HR consultant to deliver a defined piece of work. We’ll help you figure out the right model:

  • Interim HR positions (temporary cover with full delivery)
  • Fractional HR consultant (ongoing leadership, part-time)
  • Project-based consultancy (e.g. HR audit, policy refresh, culture review)

We’ll brainstorm what you need with you and explain the options in plain English so you don’t waste budget on the wrong fit.

There are some nuanced differences between an HR interim consultancy and an HR interim agency. At Hunter Adams we refer to ourselves as a consultancy but the services we offer in the HR interim space are similar to that of HR interim agencies in the sense that we provide experienced HR consultants who can join an organistion at short-notice for a short period of time and hit the ground running. The service we provide is a managed service which offers more strategic support with access to wider HR expertise. Under certain circumstances a non-managed serviced can be offered depending on requirements. A managed HR interim service offers more strategic support with access to wider HR expertise than a non-managed service.
